roZetta™/Zarduino

The design philosophy has been to choose low cost devices and to use socketed through-hole chips/modules when available. We use devices that operate at 3V3-5V when possible and include an onboard 5V-3V3 LDO when devices are only available in 3V3 versions, incorporating level conversion as needed on signals used by roZetta. We found the Arduino voltage scheme too limiting and confusing. Both 3V3 and 5V versions of the ZX-328 and ZX-40 chips are (or will be) available. All PICs used can operate at either voltage.

Each shield identifies the pins used either with silkscreen labels or circles around pads when there is insufficient room for a label.

Users can mix and match system boards and shields, populating only those sockets needed.

All µControllers incorporate serial bootloaders to allow firmware upgrades. Source will be released.

Supports X10, Insteon, UPB and other HA-related serial¹ controllers. New shields can support new technologies as they are introduced.

Windows, Linux, OSX and Android (WiFi, Bluetooth, SMS) interfaces will be provided. A documented communications protocol will be released.
