The Vishay TSOP1138 (Mouser 782-TSOP1138), TSOP4838 (Mouser 782-TSOP4838) and Panasonic PNA4602M (Digikey PNA4602M-ND) are tuned for 38kHz carrier but will work with ~33-43kHz. The TSOP 1138 has a different pinout. Other carrier frequencies are available. There are similar IR receivers made by other manufacturers. Pinouts may differ.
Other RF transmitters modules may be used. Other 4 pin modules with the same pinout are available from several sources in 303, 315, 418 & 433.92MHz versions. There are other RF transmitter modules from various manufacturers in various frequencies but the number of pins and pinouts will vary.
IR2RF is also possible using the IR2RF half of X-10's Powermid pair (available as separates). In North America, the Powermid uses 418MHz which is not used by much else. Outside North America, the Powermid uses 433.92MHz which is widely used by other wireless devices.
